The road was closed for around six hours to allow accident investigation to take place and specially trained police officers are providing support to the families involved.
Sgt Steve Wignall said: “This is an incredibly tragic incident in which two young people have sadly lost their lives. An investigation is now underway to establish the circumstances surrounding the collision.
“It’s believed a white car had been travelling with the BMW and I would like to speak with anybody who may have seen the white car or the BMW being driven prior to the collision.
