Jay Rodriguez plays down concerns over Burnley's managerial uncertainty

The left-back’s seven-year stay at Turf Moor is at risk of coming to an end with his current contract due to expire on June 30.

The Clarets offered fresh terms to both Taylor and Jay Rodriguez at the end of the season, but as of yet it’s only the latter who has put pen to paper.

It comes amid talk that Taylor could be set to make an immediate return to the Premier League with newly promoted side Southampton on a free transfer.

The club have already lost a great deal of experience from last season’s squad with stalwarts Jack Cork and Johann Gudmundsson both moving on.

It means that, should Taylor opt for pastures new, the Clarets will have lost a combined 1,288 career appearances between the trio.

Burnley have been on the lookout for a new left-back for some time now, so if Taylor departs that will only intensify the need for another full-back on that side of the defence.

The 30-year-old first made the move to East Lancashire in 2017 following his departure from Leeds United.

Over on the other side of the defence, it’s been reported that PSV Eindhoven right-back Shurandy Sambo has already signed a pre-contract agreement with the Clarets.

The 22-year-old rose through the ranks in PSV’s academy, before making his senior debut during the 2020/21 campaign.

The Netherlands Under-21 international spent the 2022/23 season on loan at Sparta Rotterdam, where he featured 36 times, before making 14 appearances for PSV last season.
